And now for the latest installment...

of People Who Have Their Priorities Totally Backwards.

I'm being terse and snarky here because if I weren't I'd get very sad and angry. Suffice it to say that when we accept the idea that something's being consensually sadomasochistic makes it wrong, yet at the same time accept that state-sanctioned torture is not wrong, we have everything entirely backwards.

I think I am going to be sick.

And for the record, in case anyone takes this to mean I don't think Max Hardcore's porn is creepy, I do.

(Link contains potentially triggering, but entirely legal, photos of legal violence.)

yep, we can torture real people without their consent, spy on them too, even let them go see movies like "Hostel" or other big budget shit where people are tortured, raped, cut up, murdered, so on, but gasp...PORN...porn is the enemy!

I've seen Max Hardcore porn. I've also seen the Hollywood movie "the condemned"...hummmm...

Hmm, I'd still count movies like Hostel in the same category as porn rather than real torture though - in that whether or not we find it tasteful, it should still be legal, it's done with consent both as far as the actors and the viewer is concerned, and the torture is fictional. And many of the people demonising porn often demonise these movies too (using words like "tortureporn").

But yes, I agree that it's unfair that "being porn" (whether violent or not) is seen as a bad thing (to the extent that people refer to films like Hostel as "porn", in order to portray them as bad), and that portrayals of sexual acts can be criminalised even when depictions of the same or far worse is okay, in a non-sexual context.

Oh, I agree. I honestly find the whole "oh my God, people have sexual responses to mock violence! STOP THOSE ROLLING CAMERAS!" thing kind of silly.

But, well, I *am* a sadomasochist and all.

And emarkienna, the thing *I* object to is that consensual sadomasochism is "obscene," but state violence is "necessary." I wasn't even thinking about Hollywood myself at all until Ren said it in her comment.

yeah, okay, through the mail; when are we going to see the same sentencing for the fuckers sending "Obsession" to everyone, considering that unlike the porn in question, no one -asked- for it?

ever see "Quills," p.s.?

I saw Quills. I really liked it, though it's not very accurate at all. (Not that it intended to be, just that I don't think those were Sade's motivations, really, at all)

oh yeah no, it had a very "stagey" feel, I didn't think it was probably at all based on reality, or more than the bare minimum necessary for the writer to go off. interesting piece, though.

Sorry yes - I was just referring to the first comment, but didn't make that very clear :) I agree entirely with your post, and the article you link to. I think that this inconsistency and hypocrisy of the state, and many of those who are anti-SM, is mad.

I remember commenting at a BDSM group that I had just recently volunteered at an ACLU event protesting Guantanamo Bay. "That's ironic," he said.

I know he just meant it flippantly, but it does make me mad when people equate the two. I know full well how shitty this stuff would be if I didn't have a safeword and didn't trust my Master. Rape and sex may have similar mechanical motions, but the subjective experience is so different that they warrant different words- and so too does what I do in my bedroom deserve a different designation from what goes on in Guantanamo.

Exactly.

To be a couple ofCheap Diablo 3 Items commenters claimed, your woman has not actually bothered to really make it distinct when it's Dworkin communicating when it is the woman (although it is painless to express to, once you learn Dworkin's fashion) * the complete GW2 Gold kaufenpiece is definitely sluggish along with pointless in terms of I notice.
